SOPA and PIPA Are Dangerous!
I was saving my 100th post for something special, but the urgency of this matter compels me to post now.
Thanks to the actions of some of the biggest sites yesterday you probably have heard of the bills currently under consideration in Congress (SOPA in the House of Representatives, PIPA in the Senate). Their goal is to stop—or at least curb—online piracy. This is a good thing, but the SOPA/PIPA...

A Disappointing Road: A Book Review
A review of After the Hangover: The Conservatives Road to Recovery by R. Emmett Tyrrell
This review is part of Thomas Nelson’s BookSneeze program. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for this independent and unbiased review.
Mr. Tyrrell explores the past, present, and future of American conservatism, but mostly the past. After an ambling report of the past full of inane...

Brotherly Affection
The title really should be “Brotherly (and Sisterly) Affection”.
In an increasingly uncaring world the people who invest themselves in your life are the ones that matter most.
I haven’t been to college in 10 years and yet I still have several professors who still know my name and will take the time for even a brief conversation when chance encounters occur. And I don’t...

The Breastplate of Saint Patrick
I arise today Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, Through the belief in the threeness, Through confession of the oneness Of the Creator of Creation.
I arise today Through the strength of Christ’s birth with his baptism, Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial, Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension, Through the strength of...

"The Simple Joy of Being Smart"
What do Mensa and McDonald’s have in common? Apparently smart people are integral to both.
According to the latest drivel for McDonald’s - their $1 breakfast menu, to be precise - enjoying a cheap breakfast makes you smart enough to handle “difficult” relationship issues and to do so through deception. Nice. And, of course, the man comes out especially needing to be...

Updated Messiah and What We Should Do About It
In an effort to make Handel’s Messiah more accessible to a younger audience, Grant Woolard recorded this auto-tuned version of the seventh chorus: “And He shall purify the sons of Levi”.
I can appreciate his attempt to “freshen up” Messiah - and I do find some humor in this video - but I am disappointed at the overall message.
This is a great chorus that speaks to...

iPhones 180x More Likely to Be Current Than...
Here is the beginning of a great article by Kevin C. Tofer that helps compare Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS in a fair way. And it also helps point out the bias against Android many main-stream tech reporters have.
I was disappointed to read one of the most disingenuous comparisons between iOS and Android version uptake this morning. TechCrunch’s MG Siegler, whom I genuinely...

Happy Thanksgiving!

“And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want that we often wish you partakers of our plenty.” Edward Winslow, describing the first Thanksgiving feast with the Wampanoag and English settlers.
Edward Winslow. “A letter sent from New-England to a friend in these parts.”...

Yesterday
Why do you get wrapped up in yesterday? Can you change any of them?
No. You can only make up for them by changing today and working - reasonably - on tomorrow.

Death of "Death of the Book" Predictions
The following excerpt is reblogged from irisblasi.
Then, reading along just now in Nicholas Carr’s fantastic The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains, I came across yet another example of this kind of paranoia:
[J]ournalism will be the whole press—the whole human thought. Thought will spread across the world with the rapidity of light, instantly conceived, instantly written,...

Amazon Doesn't Want My Money, I Guess
Image via Wikipedia
I’m blogging from my T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) Android phone right now. (In the year+ I’ve had this phone, I’ve become a great admirer of the Android platform. I really ought to blog on this topic more.)
One of the benefits many people find in owning a smartphone obviously is the many things one can do on a phone that used to be limited to the computer. Like...
